This year tax season opens on February 9 2015 to file your 2014 Personal income tax returns. There are a few new changes largely focused on families as follows:
“The Family Tax Cut is a proposed non-refundable tax credit of up to $2,000 available to eligible couples with children under the age of 18, and is effective starting with the 2014 tax year.
The maximum amount that can be claimed for the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit for each child has increased to $1,000.
Under proposed changes to the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB), parents will be eligible for a benefit of $160 per month for each eligible child under the age of six – up from $100 per month effective January 1, 2015. Under these proposed changes to the UCCB, parents may also receive a benefit of $60 per month for eligible children ages six through 17. Payments of the additional amount and the expanded amount will start in July of 2015.”
Is this enough to make a difference? Small steps in the right direction are still steps.
